6 REASONS TO
SUPPORT US:

1. Sports injury is common

Nearly all of us have experienced a sports injury or know someone who has. In the UK, 25 million people take part in grassroots sport each year. An estimated 7% of participating adults have been injured in grassroots sport in the last year – that’s around 10,000 per day.

2. We are tackling a hidden epidemic

Sports injury is a public health issue, causing over 1 million Emergency Department visits each year. Sport-related concussion alone costs the NHS hundreds of millions per year representing the tip of the iceberg of the impact of sports injury.

3. Sport is facing an existential crisis

At Podium, we don’t believe it needs to be this way. We want to help protect the future of sport by improving support and catalysing data-led change to reduce injury and increase participation.

4. We are levelling the playing field

Currently, research and provision of support is predominantly focused at the elite end of the game. There is a lack of data and knowledge regarding sports injury at youth and grassroots level. This imbalance needs to be addressed, as 99% of participation in sports is at the grassroots level.

5. World-leading, cutting-edge research

The research we are undertaking through the Podium Institute at the University of Oxford, and through our in-house Applied Research team is pioneering understanding of key issues across sport, such as concussion, Sudden Cardiac Death, Mental Health and Psychological Wellbeing.

6. We are delivering real-world solutions

Using data and technology, and working with real-world insights, we have developed on-the-ground tools for that help schools and clubs log, monitor and manage sports injuries. Data collected is driving our ground-breaking research.
